Class Descriptions

All classes are taught using the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment. The first principle is Open to Grace. As we move through our asana practice we are reminded of how our actions and intentions reflect in they way we live our lives. We are encouraged to find a softness in our hearts and minds as we support our poses with firm muscles to extend radiantly outward.

•Basics- This class is for students new to yoga and teaches basic yoga poses using Anusara alignment principles in a general way. Students will do some modified sun salutes, standing poses, mild backbends, seated twists and reclining poses. Best class for students new to yoga and those who prefer a gentle practice. This class is best for new students who are entering anytime during the session.

•Level 1 - In this beginning level class, the Principles of Anusara alignment are taught using standing poses, modified sun salutations, introductions to inversions and hand balances, mild backbends and basic seated poses. Students are taught how balanced alignment is therapeutic for their bodies so they can incorporate it into their daily lives. This session class is for people new to Anusara and yoga but ready for a good practice.

•Level 1-2 - This class is an extension of level 1. The principles of Anusara alignment are refined more specifically. Slightly more advanced poses are introduced including more inversions and hand balances, deeper backbends and seated poses. This session class is good for someone who has already taken level 1.  It is also a good introductory Anusara Yoga class for someone who has previous yoga experience or who is new to yoga but fairly fit and has good body awareness.

•Mixed Level Yoga - In this class students with multiple levels of experience and ability practice together. In more challenging poses we offer stages and modifications so that each student can strive for the practice that is best for them. This class is available for new students who are entering after the session has begun.

•Advanced Practice class- In this upbeat class,  the teacher practices with the students, creating a deeper sense of community and playfulness. This practice is a chance to get more visual experience and examine ways to approach taking your own practice to a deeper level.

•Yoga For Athletes: This class is designed specifically for runners, sports and fitness enthusiasts. Often strong fit people are intimidated to try yoga because they aren't as flexible but yoga will help them with that. This class will provide a good workout and fun poses that play to the strength of athletes.  Students will increase flexibility gradually with poses tailored for muscles that are integrated and strong.

Specialty Six-Week Series Classes:  These classes are taught for six weeks on special subjects. Enrollment for the entire series is required and a minimum enrollment must be met before the class can continue.  Prices are set to lower than the session classes because there are no make-ups for missed classes. •Family Yoga-(8/4-9/8) This six week series offers parents and children the chance to enjoy the fun of yoga together.  Children ages 7-12 and one parent can do poses for fun and fitness.  Parents might be asked to support their child in a pose occasionally but beyond that are given the opportunity to be a student along with them.

•Couples Yoga-(8/13-9/17)  This six weeks series offers couples an opportunity to practice together, find a shared interest and form a deeper spiritual and physical relationship.  The class will be playful and challenging and will provide couples many opportunities to assist and support each other as partners in poses.  This Friday night class sets a nice tone for the evening and weekend together and can help couples renew and deepen their bond with each other.
